First some history of the bike that may be of interest .
For all intents and purposes, certainly from a rider standpoint I am the original owner. I bought the bike with a little over 100 miles on it from a dealer in suburban Milwaukee. The original owner bought it just to have as a bargaining tool for use when the model he wanted became available. At the time of purchase Harley was in an oversold position and any Harley for sale was difficult to find. I always had wanted a Springer, this one became available so I got lucky.
Once purchased & ridden very few miles I had it hauled to Las Vegas, then rode down to Laughlin for the River Run. It was my first Harley rally. There I found Custom Paint Specialists and we created a custom paint scheme. Once I got back to Milwaukee I went to the Harley dealer with the intent of ordering stock parts to have them painted my new color scheme. The young man running the parts department suggested I make it into a custom bike. I then bought all custom parts, shipped them down to Lake Havasu, AZ and had them painted the color scheme that you see on the bike. This is a very intricate high dollar color scheme with the underlay being a crinkle base adding visual interest. The painted parts were shipped back and the bike was rebuilt at Hal's Harley Davidson in New Berlin, WI. It had roughly 2,200 miles on it at the time of the rebuild, the new odometer reads 2,600 so total miles are approximately 4800 miles. As the build ensued it just kept getting more & more detailed and customized. The end result is truly a one of a kind Harley Springer Softail.
An interesting note...For 30 years I lived next door to the former CEO of Harley, Rich Teerlink, who is credited with the Harley turnaround after years of falling market share throughout the 70's and early 80's. The bike was just back from its total customization and I was driving by his house and saw he was in the front lawn. I stopped and he came over …did not say a word… walked slowly all the way around the bike looking at the details. His comment to me was "this might very well be the most beautiful Harley I've ever seen". My response to him… "Coming from The Harley God that's a huge compliment, thank you." True story!
